Rag Garland Tutorial

So it may have taken me a full month, but I am slowly putting together a springtime themed piano mantle.  I'm blaming my slow speed on the weather not being "springy".

I finally decided to tackle making some rag garland using two different pieces of material and some twine.  Below are the steps I took in completing my project.

{Step 1}  Find a cute baby to prop up next to you to make sure you aren't too productive.

{Step 2} Measure the distance you would like the garland to cover and then cut the twine.  I tied a loop at each end for hanging up the garland.

{Step 3}  Rip strips of fabric.  My pieces were about 24 inches long and 1 inch wide.  The garland covered 28 inches and I needed 40 pieces of fabric.

{Step 4} Fold a piece of fabric in half and lay the strip under the twine, with the folded end pointing down.

{Step 5} Bring the two ends over the twine and pull it through the loop of fabric at the bottom.

{Step 6}  Tighten the knot and repeat with your next piece of fabric.

Once I figured out how to pull the fabric through it was a pretty quick process.  The longest part is ripping the fabric strips.

Have you completed any spring crafts recently?  If so please share any ideas!  I'm already looking for new garland or bunting ideas.  I'm working on finishing up the spring mantle, so those pictures will be coming soon.

Have a wonderful Monday afternoon,

Becky
