Valentines Day Decorating

I love to decorate for the holidays!  And now that I am staying home full time one thing I am hoping to do is decorate for more than just Christmas.  I worked on a couple of small Valentines Day projects and put together a Love themed "mantel" last night.  And since I am lacking a fireplace I've decided my piano will be my mantel.

I had the small heart garland strands leftover from last year, and the pink frame was from a wedding project for my brother's wedding.  I simply tied the garland around the top of the frame and propped it up against the wall.

Inside one jar is pom pom garland from Michaels, found in their Valentines day section.  ($3 a piece!)  The other has paper hearts, cut out of old sheet music, that I had left over from a bridal shower.
The LOVE letters are cardboard letters from Hobby Lobby ($2.47 a piece) wrapped with yarn and secured with a little hot glue.

The LOVE canvas is my favorite project.  Here is a shot of my supplies from before.

Beautiful, huh?  I got the canvas a long time ago at Hobby Lobby, on clearance for $2.50.  I simply arranged my letters to spell out the word love in the shape of a heart, and then hot glued each letter into place.  Once they were secure I sprayed the entire piece several times.  I was planning on painting it red or pink after the white dried, but I decided I loved the look of the white too much!

The canning jars were left over from a bridal shower.  I put acrylic paint in the bottoms and flipped them over to drip.  Then I sprayed a combination of water and vinegar inside and swished it around to thin the paint.  Finally I left them to dry upside down overnight.  I love how they turned out, but a little tip, do NOT put water in them and try to use them as a vase!  It doesn't work.  :)

Are you doing any decorating for Valentine's Day?  I would love to hear about it!

  3. Everything looks great! I too, do not have a mantle or fireplace for that matter. I tend to use my table or tv stand for decor.
