closet organization

So I've noticed that my girls seem to have a tendency to keep everything.  Every little piece of paper, broken crayon.  All of it.  This isn't really bad, I have (once or maybe twice) thought I should have kept something.  But if you know me then you know that I have NO desire to keep around things that I don't need or use.  And the times I didn't miss the stuff I gave away or sold far outweighs the couple of times I did miss those things.

It is just clutter!

And just as frustrating to me is disorder in my house. It drives me just as crazy as the pile of scrap paper by my girl's beds.

So when I realized that my girls room was beginning to be over run by necklaces, belts and hair bows I knew we had to take action!  This is just a guess, but I'm thinking they will continue to amass more as they grow older.

This organization system was a very easy and cheap fix to the clutter of girly things laying around all over our house.

This system was very simple and easy to make!

Supplies:
peg board
spray paint
screw/screw driver
peg board hooks and/or baskets

*Decide the wall space you can devote to an organization system, and buy a piece of peg board to fit.
*Spray paint it a color that will make you smile {a light color would be best}.
*Screw it into the wall. {We put it in at a height that would be easy for our girls to access on their own.}
*Hang your hooks and baskets, and fill the space up with your beautiful things.

{At first I wasn't too sure what to do with all of the hair clips.  I decided later to take some wide ribbon, tie it to the hook, and then clip on the hair bows.}

I will say that my girls are using all of their pretty belongings more frequently.  And I love that the system is easy enough for them to use independently!

Now all I need to do is make one for my closet.

  1. Wow looks GREAT, I hope they put their stuff back after they use it, we have a small OK BIG issue w/ that!! Maybe they inherited your good genes and they will!!

    1. Well I finished this project almost a month ago and this is what it looked like today :) I think it helps when they can see it all clearly and it's at the right level for them. Hopefully they can keep it up!

  2. Hi Becky! Cute blog. I found you when searching for a DIY bench cushion on Pinterest. I love how yours turned out. Your closet organization is great - I need one of these in my daughter's closet and MINE. :-)

    1. Thanks! It is such an easy project that there is no real reason why I haven't installed one yet in my own closet!
