pears. lots of pears.

This year our pear tree produced a lot of pears.  Lots, and lots, and lots of pears.  Which means Kailey and I were able to spend a day making delicious pear goodies.

Pearsauce is an easy way to use up lots of pears.  Same concept as making applesauce.  But my husbands favorite is spiced vanilla pear butter.  It is as tasty as it sounds.  We love to eat it on toast or crackers.

The recipes call for traditional canning but I skip this step and put them in Ball freezer jars instead.  {One less step in my mind!}

Sweet Kailey helped me wash pears all day long.  We will not discuss how many shirts she got soaking wet.  It was a good job for a four year old who likes messes.

I used my apple corer/slicer/peeler gadget {pretty sure that is the technical term} to speed up the process.

The best part of the whole sticky process?  My house smelled delicious all day long.  {And my husband has a very large supply of pear butter to get him through the winter.}

Do you have any other excellent pear recipies?  I should probably start compiling other ideas for the next time we have such a huge amount of pears!

  1. I've just recently started appreciating pears. hahaha I was never fond of them but I realized why, I can't stand the peel. Apples no problem, pears no way. I'll have to check out the recipes, I might just become a pear lover :)
